At Flow and Glow, we’re committed to exploring innovative therapies that support optimal health and vitality. One such promising approach is Ozone High-Dose Therapy (OHT), which has garnered attention for its potential to enhance mitochondrial function—a cornerstone of cellular energy and overall well-being.
Understanding OHT and Its Impact on Mitochondria
Mitochondria, often referred to as the “powerhouses” of our cells, play a crucial role in energy production. When mitochondrial function is compromised, it can lead to a host of health issues, including chronic fatigue, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases.
OHT involves the administration of medical-grade ozone in high concentrations, typically through a process known as Major AutoHaemo Therapy (MAH). In this method, a patient’s blood is drawn, exposed to ozone, and then reinfused. This process is believed to stimulate various physiological responses, including improved oxygen utilization and modulation of the immune system.
Insights from Recent Research
A study conducted by König and Lahodny investigated the effects of OHT on mitochondrial bioenergetics in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). Six patients underwent two sessions of 10-pass OHT within one week. The researchers assessed mitochondrial function by measuring parameters such as:
- Basal Oxygen Consumption Rate (OCR)
- ATP-linked OCR and Proton Leak
- Maximal OCR and Reserve Capacity
- Non-mitochondrial OCR
The findings revealed a significant improvement in the Bioenergetic Health Index (BHI) of PBMCs post-treatment. Notably, there was an increase in both the reserve capacity and maximal respiration of mitochondria. Additionally, an uptick in non-mitochondrial oxygen consumption suggested activation of antioxidant and detoxifying enzymes via the Nrf2 pathway.
Implications for Health and Wellness
These results suggest that OHT may serve as a safe and effective adjunctive therapy for enhancing mitochondrial function. By boosting the bioenergetic capacity of cells, OHT could potentially aid in the management of various chronic and acute conditions where mitochondrial dysfunction is a contributing factor.
At Flow and Glow, we recognize the importance of mitochondrial health in achieving optimal wellness. Integrating therapies like OHT into our offerings aligns with our mission to provide holistic and evidence-based approaches to health.
